BC Curling Championships: Bilesky books first trip to the Brier

Date: 2013-02-11

PARKSVILLE (February 11, 2013) - Andrew Bilesky’s Royal City foursome have booked a trip to the Brier after they beat Team Pierce 7-4 at the 2013 Canadian Direct Insurance BC Men’s Curling Championship.

The four men from the Lower Mainland have had a great run at this year’s championship. Earlier in the competition, they had managed to beat defending champion Jim Cotter twice in the preliminary rounds, helping to knock the normally dominant Vernon rink out of the competition.

The team is made up of Skip Andrew Bilesky (New Westminster), Third Steve Kopf (Coquitlam), Second Derek Errington (New Westminster), Lead Aaron Watson (Surrey) and coach Neil Houston (Port Moody).
Bilesky and Errington have both been to a national competition as juniors, but no one from the team has ever made it to the Brier.

They will face the likes of Kevin Martin (Alberta), Jeff Stoughton (Manitoba) and Glenn Howard (Ontario) at the 2013 Tim Hortons Brier in Edmonton from March 2-10.

Former BC champion Brent Pierce will miss out on first trip to the Brier as a skip. Pierce and third Jeff Richard (Kelowna) and Second Kevin Recksiedler (Port Moody) have all been to the national competition in the past, but not together. Lead Grant Dezura (Maple Ridge) has been a BC junior champion and BC mixed champion. Going into the competition, Team Pierce were the second-highest ranking BC team based on Canadian Team Ranking System points, after Team Cotter.
