Additional Coverages Available in British Columbia
We have explained vehicle insurance and licensing using clean and simple language. Where words or expressions used here differ from the wording of the Canadian Direct Insurance policy, the Canadian Direct Insurance policy wording will prevail.
Loss of Use
This coverage provides you with access to another automobile when your automobile is damaged, stolen or otherwise unavailable to you because of an insured loss. If your vehicle is stolen or rendered inoperable by loss or damage caused by a Collision or Comprehensive loss, we pay all resulting reasonable expenses incurred by you for the rental of a similar substitute vehicle or for public transportation subject to the limits per day and per occurrence.
Coverage comes into effect from the time of loss or damage. If your automobile is stolen this coverage comes into effect when the theft is reported to Canadian Direct Insurance. The coverage ends on the date: a) your automobile is repaired or replaced, b) we offer you a payment to settle the claim, or c) your total limit is reached, whichever happens first.
There are two options available: Canadian Direct Insurance pays up to $50CAD a day with a maximum of $500CAD per occurrence, or $75CAD a day up to $750CAD per occurrence.
Replacement Cost
This coverage is intended to protect you against the high cost of automobile depreciation during the first three years of your vehicle's life.
This type of coverage provides repairs using new parts, or replacement of the automobile with a current make and model in the event the cost of repairs exceed the actual cash value of the vehicle.
Rental Automobile
This coverage provides insurance coverage for you when you rent a motor vehicle for use in Canada or the United States. Rental Automobile coverage allows you to rent a vehicle when you are on vacation or a business trip without having to buy physical damage insurance from the rental agency.
In addition, we provide Loss of Use coverage on the rental vehicle up to $50CAD a day up to $500CAD per occurrence, subject to a Collision deductible of $300CAD and a Comprehensive deductible of $200CAD.
Travel Protection
This coverage pays for unexpected expenses due to an accident or theft of your automobile while on a trip away from home.
If you are on a trip away from home with the automobile described on your Summary Page and it is stolen or rendered inoperable by a loss or damage of the type covered under your insurance with Canadian Direct Insurance, we reimburse you for the following reasonable expenses that arise up to specified limits:
- Additional Living Expenses
- Replacement Rental Vehicle
- Towing
- Personal Return Home Expenses
- Vehicle Return Home Expenses
