I took level 1 on August 23, 2008 and was so impressed by what I learned that when Level 2 was available April 25, 2009 I registered immediately. I am 61 years old and have been driving for 42/43 years, I have not had a chargeable accident in over 30 years and haven't had a moving violation in 25 or so years, so needless to say I would fit your profile as a "good driver" however, I realized my driving was getting ratty and I was not ready to cope with the increasing strains and problems created by increased traffic flows plus my own gradual ageing. I believe in being pro-active in most things and not wait until something happens. I will now give you my comments on the course(s).
Level 1 was perhaps the most impressive in that it sets you up permanently to be a better driver, from seat placement to mirror adjustment and braking, these are all things that all drivers should know. The quick lane change and "looking over or through" traffic was an eyeopener as was the emergency braking. Level 1 was a very good introduction to driving. Level 2 was a continuation of level 1 in respect that it showed you more avoidance methods which was great the backing up exercise was a bit difficult in that most of us never back a vehicle up more than 1 or 2 meters so to have to concentrate on this part of our driving was very instructive. The slalom course was a lot of fun in that you can see real life applications. Have these two courses made me a better, more aware driver? I like to think so and had an opportunity to utilize what I had learned from both courses on two different occasions where other drivers either cut me off or made u turns in traffic, at night with no lights on. Would I recommend this course(s) to other drivers? Yes I would and yes I have as I believe anything a driver can do today to keep their driving skills at a high level is preferable to a potential accident, potential major injury, a long rehab stint, loss of vehicle and the effects on ones' wallet that can occur when you figure you know it all behind the wheel! I look forward to future opportunities to enhance my driving skills, and wish you much success in attracting more drivers to these programs. Yours truly; Scott M. Bennie
My friend, Sydney Hope and I took the course, and have nothing but rave reviews, re: the course, for you! We learned so much, just from that one day. Everyone should take this course! The guys were great, really patient and fun! (That's such an important factor, because it made us relax, and have fun too!). Cheers! Phyllis Page
The folks who give the course are very experienced, high performance drivers with friendly demeanours and a sense of humour. The course is aimed at exposing drivers to emergency braking and avoidance maneuvers, with emphasis on improving your driving vision. Given that driving is just about the most life-threatening thing that we do (more so than river running and grizzly bear hunting) it makes complete sense to try to become a better driver by taking a course of this nature. – Pete from Port Moody
That was a great course! I've had my new Civic for a year, and had never tried the ABS very good to get a sense of how to be seated properly to be able to use that wonderful system! My boyfriend was very impressed that his truck was much more stable than he expected, and he'd learned the don't brake in a corner advice previously, and was very pleasantly surprised at how easy and safe it felt! Thanks for offering the course! Carol from Surrey
I just wanted to send you a fast email thanking you, Canadian Direct and Driving Unlimited for the outstanding “Collision Avoidance Course”. I never thought that I could throw my Toyota Four Runner around like I did and not flip it! It showed me that you can do a lot more with your vehicle and yourself to avoid an accident. Again, thank you for the course and I will mention the quality of the course to friends and associates I work with. Thanks, Bob Maher (Vanco Agencies Ltd.)
I wanted to say how grateful I am to Canadian Direct for putting on this course. I took the course, with my husband, two weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised how much I learned. I was pretty apprehensive at the beginning but after a few tries, I felt confident that I could handle my car in a way I never thought I could. I have since become a big advocate of this course and I am talking to everyone I know about signing up for it. I am sure they will get as much out of it as I have. Once again thank you.
